SQL is a database language specifically designed to facilitate the management of data in relational database management systems (RDBMS). It has its foundations in complex relational algebra and calculus.
Data in a RDBMS is stored in database objects called tables. A table is a collection of related data and is made up of columns and rows. SQL allows you to efficiently utilise your databases and carry out numerous actions, including:
• Execution of queries;
• Data retrieval;
• Insertion of records;
• Update of records;
• Deletion of records;
• Creation of new databases;
• Creation of new tables;
• Saving stored procedures;
• Generating database views; and
• Setting of permissions on tables, procedures and views.
Since the mid-1980s, SQL has been developed to meet a standard defined by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) that was subsequently adopted by the International Standards Organisation (ISO). There have been numerous expansions and revisions to SQL over the years, and different software companies like Microsoft and Sun have developed their own versions – there are even projects developing Open Source SQL – but all iterations of the language still have to adhere to the recognised and accepted standards and protocols.
Transition Computing can work with you and your in-house IT team or independently to develop robust and effective SQL databases for your business. We’re a software development company that knows SQL inside out, which means you don’t have to. You don’t have to be technically minded in order to tell us what you need from an SQL database. Just outline what you want your database to do and we’ll do the rest. We’ll take your ideas and build a database that is tailored to the exact requirements of your business.
At all stages of the process we’ll explain what we are doing in simple terms so that you know you are getting the system you want. And we’ll rigorously test any database we develop to ensure it will meet your needs now and in the future. Why not contact us to find out more?
